Grown Skis
Traditional handcraft and modern designing technics… This is how you can summarize the German brand Grown skis, which uses 100% green energy sources in order to enable a low-energy intensive producing process. Their method enables them to minimize the use of non-natural materials like fibreglass, plastic, foil, varnish and carbon. This philosophy let them win the Volvo Sports Design 2008 Award.
These handmade skis are actually products of high technology designing methods. Grown Skis uses CAD and CAE (Computer Aided Design/Engineering) methods, like the ones used in Automotive and Aerospace Industries. They aim to reduce the weight of the skis while they are trying to improve the mechanical properties with the help of Finite Element Analysis and numerical optimization methods. In order to reach these aims Grown Skis optimizes the carben layers and the geometry of the wood core in a simulation.
Eco is sexy touch naked wood
The tests seem to show that each pair of Grown Skis are more equal in their technical features, like flex and torsion, compared to coventionally produced industrial skis.
